Alex Yale is a founder and president of YBA Architects. As a design Principal, Alex has over 10 years of experience executing mixed-use, transit-oriented developments.

Alex has particular interest and experience in designing residential, mixed-use and institutional projects with complex site development and programmatic aspects. He is now focused on socioeconomics, life cycle costing, and the integrated design and construction process. Alex’s passion for art, design and the environment drives his work. He has a deep appreciation for the ways in which architecture and responsible stewardship can enhance the natural world.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, he is fond of the Pacific Northwest, a region where the built and natural environments have a strong dialogue.



Matt Brown

Matt Brown is a founder and vice president of YBA Architects. Matt has worked in diverse contexts worldwide on buildings of many types, from schools, public buildings and multi-family dwellings in rural Oregon, to large university buildings, mid- and high-rise student housing and urban generation projects in the UK, to libraries in the Middle East. He Brings over 15 years of professional experience.

Matt’s research connecting architecture and socioeconomic opportunity in the UK, China and the US underpins his interest in the architecture of cities: innovative, higher density places to live and work, community-oriented developments, and the re-use and re-invention of existing buildings.

After half a decade at a world-leading practice in London where he qualified as an architect, Matt returned to his Oregon roots to form YBA and focus his broad experience on urban challenges in the Pacific Northwest.
